The research on this product, and who paid for it
e+ Energy Shot — 12ct is one of the few items in the line with a published trial naming it specifically. Here is what exists, in full, including the parts that do not flatter it.
Caffeine-containing, adaptogenic-rich drink modulates the effects of caffeine on mental performance and cognitive parameters
| Published in | Nutrients, 2020 |
| Reference | PMID 32610481 |
| Design | Placebo-controlled, double-blinded, randomised crossover; 30 participants |
| What was tested | This product |
| Who funded it | Funded by Isagenix; one author was an Isagenix employee and the investigators received funding to conduct the work |
The comparison was against both a placebo and caffeine alone, and the outcomes were mixed rather than uniformly favourable. ‘Better than caffeine’ is not what this study found, and it is not what this page says.
A company-funded study is not worthless and it is not proof. It is one result, produced by people with an interest in the outcome, and it is worth exactly as much as its design allows. That is why the funding sits next to the finding here rather than in a footnote.
What the evidence actually shows
Company-funded product trial — cognition and mood
A placebo-controlled, double-blind randomised crossover in 30 people comparing the e+ shot against a matched caffeine shot and a placebo. Both caffeinated drinks affected some cognitive and mood measures, but many comparisons between e+ and plain caffeine were not significantly different. Systolic blood pressure rose at 30 minutes for both, staying within healthy ranges. Isagenix-funded with a company-affiliated author. It does not show that the adaptogens outperform caffeine on their own.
