Why Isagenix makes this one

What it was built to do

Originally created to add protein to a shake without adding carbs, fat or calories.

What actually makes it different

18g undenatured whey concentrate at 90 calories, virtually carb- and fat-free; lowest calories per gram of protein.

Who it suits

Stirred into oatmeal, smoothies, baked goods or a shake.

The dividing line

Performance Protein: one IsaPro scoop plus 1.5 IsaLean scoops approximates it with fewer carbs.

What the system-level research shows

Several published trials involve these products, funded by unrestricted Isagenix grants with company employees or advisers among the authors. They test a whole protocol — protein pacing with calorie restriction or intermittent fasting — not a single shake. In one head-to-head over eight weeks the protein-pacing group lost more weight and more visceral fat than a heart-healthy comparison diet, and reported lower desire to eat. In a 52-week follow-up the control group trended back toward baseline on most markers despite a lower average calorie intake. Those are findings about a programme. They are not evidence that this one product, bought on its own, produces that result, and this site will not present them that way.

The trials, named. Intermittent fasting combined with calorie restriction is effective for weight loss and cardio-protection in obese women (Nutrition Journal, 2012, PMID 23171320); Improvement in coronary heart disease risk factors during an intermittent fasting/calorie restriction regimen: relationship to adipokine modulations (Nutrition & Metabolism, 2012, PMID 23113919); Protein-pacing caloric-restriction enhances body composition similarly in obese men and women during weight loss and sustains efficacy during long-term weight maintenance (Nutrients, 2016, PMID 27483317); Intermittent fasting and protein pacing are superior to caloric restriction for weight and visceral fat loss (Obesity, 2023, DOI 10.1002/oby.23660, trial NCT04327141); Gut microbiome remodeling and metabolomic profile improves in response to protein pacing with intermittent fasting versus continuous caloric restriction (Nature Communications, 2024, follow-up analysis of the 2023 trial above). The first two are the same cohort of 54 women reported twice, so that is four independent studies rather than five, and every one of them was paid for by Isagenix.

Where the brand does not explain itself

This product and Clear Protein overlap enough that most buyers ask which one they need. Isagenix publishes no rationale for both existing and no guidance on choosing between them. We are not going to invent one. What we can tell you is what actually differs, which is the dividing line above — and that if the brand had a cleaner answer, it would be on their page and not only on ours.

Is that a lot? What the rest of the shelf looks like

Meal-replacement shakes in this tier commonly run 16 to 25 g of protein and 130 to 240 calories a serving, with around 6 g of fibre, and land between roughly $3.20 and $4.35 a serving at full price. The spread inside that range is mostly a positioning choice: the lower-calorie end is built as a protein supplement you add to a day, the higher end as a meal you replace. Compare protein per calorie and protein per dollar separately from micronutrient completeness — a powder that wins on cost per gram of protein is not answering the same question as one built to stand in for a meal.

Category figures checked August 2026 across mainstream products in the same format, from the manufacturers’ own published labels and pricing. We do not name other brands on this site — a brand name does not tell you whether a dose is high or low, and a range does.
